Consolidated Edison Company of New York, Inc. – “Workplace of the future”
Commonly known as Con Edison or Con Ed, Consolidated Edison, Inc. is one of the largest investor-owned energy companies in the United States, with approximately $13 billion in annual revenues as of 2010, and over $36 billion in assets. The company provides a wide range of energy-related products and services to its customers through its subsidiaries, including Consolidated Edison Company of New York, Inc., Orange and Rockland Utilities, Inc., Con Edison Solutions, Con Edison Energy, and Con Edison Development. This 3-floor pilot project, for Consolidated Edison Company of New York, Inc.’s landmarked Headquarters, establishes a new paradigm for workplace design, trend setting and corporate-culturally challenging. Con Ed set upon creating an environment for its facilities engineering staff that would encourage spontaneous collaboration, yet provide sufficient privacy and communal areas for technically oriented solo tasks. In-place technology includes color-changing LED lighting to 65” touch-sensitive monitors for virtual review and markup of engineering drawings. The workplace also needed to respond to Manhattan’s new-media-laden office market, where Con Ed competes to attract new hires. In the end, the project delivered, and did so exactly on budget.
